Hijack Crackdown!

Rcently we have noticed that more and more people are linking their stores to other online commerce websites. This is something we would like to avoid.

We are happy for people to link to their own website, blog or myspace page, but are not keen on members luring visitors away to other stores. We liken the situation to a fashion designer standing next to their rack in a department store and tell customers looking at their clothes “Hey, don’t buy it here! Come store across the street and get it there!” – not likely, and not cool. Doing so takes business away from other Mintd members as well.

If you sell your products on your own website, we’re happy for you to link your profile to it. And we would love it if you also put a link back to Mintd on your homepage.

We have discussed a technological solution (i.e. blocking URLs) but we’d much rather put this out there and use an honesty policy. If you are currently linking to another store, please take the time to change the link in the next few weeks.

Thank you,

Team Mintd

PS: If in doubt, please contact us. We understand there are exceptions and are happy to discuss this.

I agree that direct links to shops aren’t appropriate.

We put a link to our publishing site – which has details of our commercial books and cards (which we can’t sell here) and also a link to sign up to our newsletter. We don’t link to our online shop.

How weird, the second half of my response just vanished! Hmm, well, I just pointed out that we also link to our specific tarot sites as appropriate, but those are not direct selling sites and again, are necessary to make it clear that the images we sell o

Baba: Your very welcome to supply your customers with more information about your product. Its blatant linking we’re trying to discourage.

Signing up to a sales venue brings with it a certain amount of obligation and implied loyalty.

I don’t have a website or blog at this time. Is a link to my Flickr photo page/gallery ok?

mea culpa (and I have removed it!).

i wasn’t selling the exact same products on “the other site” but was wanting to reassure potential customers on Mintd wondering about feedback and reliability issues.

(cough) i have removed the link and apologise

I agree with this rule. I still kept my link to my blog though since I have 3 places on my blog right now for people to visit Mintd and sign up. ;-) Mintd rox

Did anybody see the super-massive thread on etsy, which touched on this subject? Was about the EtsyLabs store getting opened on mintd.

Oh yeah.. Saw the entire ‘super massive’ thread… Ended up being a plus for this site. Brought me here anyway. In was interesting to read the twists and turns as the conversation moved along

Yeah, I saw the supermassive thread on Etsy. It’s how I learned of Mintd!

This is a fair policy. Annnnd, I’m super stoked that you allow creatives to link to our own websites, even if there’s ecommerce going on. Thanks!

Doesn’t the same problem of taking business away from mindt hold true of personal websites where people sell their work if they’re set up with a shopping cart or other e-commerce set-up as it would on Etsy (just smaller scale)?

Giftbarer: I think people, given the choice, are happier to buy from a community site like mintd because of there is an added layer of protection. If someone is just using their Mintd account as an add for their own page, we’d look into it. I think if you

You know it’s funny because another promotional and store type site opened an account at E. and Posted a link and message on the E. Forum to check them out. E. admin locked it ASAP. They were not happy. Yet here they are on mintd. Ironic I think.
