How Styling Works

The way styling works at Mintd is pretty simple:
Then whenever anybody looks at your lookbook, goes to the product, and buys it you get a 2.5% commission on the sale in Mintd referral credits. So if you make an awesome style, it only takes 40 clicks from people before you’ve made your money back on the original purchase! |

Supagroova, I’ve noticed that most people so far have their own products featured in their look books. Do they still get a 2.5% commission from a sale from self promotion lookbooks? or is the commision that Mintd takes from a resulting sale just less? Thanks! mümmus |

i have a question, :) what if the items in my shop are all one of a kind, how would one earn a commission on them from creating a lookbook? (once i make them, i don’t really produce them ever the same again) |

This is a tough one, QT. I understand your situation, and there seem to be quite a few people selling one offs. What could work is if a lookbook brings a person to a store, anything they buy will send a commission to the lookbook stylist. The function of lookbooks is 1) to encourage people to buy more stuff and 2) to outsource advertising to the customer. We’ll bring this up at the next Mintd board meeting at our secret underground location. |

thank you so much for answering my question rubidium. it’s definitely my favorite feature on the site. on the other spectrum of things, when i browse through my favorite online boutiques (or from catalogs in brick and mortar stores) they always inspire me, and i love to create a pretty setting for my own pieces. i was planning on creating a lookbook either way – commission or not for one offs, i love the space for it here! |

I’m having a hard time adding other people to my lookbooks. I have two right now that would look even better if I added others’ items in there, but I can’t seem to grasp how to do it. Hopefully it’s something simple that I’m just not seeing. :) B |

Brooke, you want to add other people’s products, or other people? If it is other people’s products you need to have included their products in the lookbook’s image itself. Otherwise it’s not really a lookbook of that item! ;-) |

Hmm. Yes, I’m talking about adding other people’s items. What I wanted to do was have a mix of my items and other people’s within one lookbook. It seems the lookbooks were originally for promoting stores’ whose items you purchased, right? For instance, I’d buy a pair of earrings and have photos of myself wearing it, etc? I think this is why I’m having an issue – I’m using the lookbook for something for which it was not originally intended, so it’s not working intuitively. You think? :) B |

Yeah, lookbooks of other people’s products are designed to show users how you’ve put your own touches on an item, how you’ve styled it, how you’ve made it yours. Otherwise if it’s your own lookbook, it’s a chance to show how it can be worn, used, or styled. |

Hi! Totally new here. Loving all the great functions so far but still trying to worka few things out… If i see an item i’d like to promote through a lookbook, say a t-shirt for example and i have items that i already own that i think would look great with it, say a scarf, skirt and boots, or even some cool fabric or texture that compliment a design, can i upload photos of these things to put along side the t-shirt? Kind of like ‘styling’ but for a product i love but haven’t purchased? Sorry, that was a bit long winded! Hope the question was clear enough. |

Shagpile, we found we were getting lookbooks with lots of unrelated stuff in them so we changed it so Lookbooks have to include either a product of your own or a product you’ve purchased. Why not buy the tee you like?! ;-) |

OK. Is this right? So you can only create a lookbook featuring one shops items. You can only do this if you have purchased an item from that shop to begin the lookbook, then you can add other items from that shop. OR you can use that item as start of the lookbook but then fill the lookbook with other items from a different shop? soooo confused???? as usual :o( |

walkonthemoon: it’s more like this: you can make a lookbook with multiple products. But the products you add to the lookbook must be either made or purchased by you :-) |

ah…so if I purchase 10 items from 10 different shops I can put them all in one lookbook plus one of my own? So basically you can’t put something in a lookbook unless you have access to a photo of it. Is that basically right? |

You go it! It has taken people a while to get this, so we haven’t been to strict. There has been a couple of pics of random things that then say they have 5 different products in them, none of which appear in the photos. Lookbook interestingness is also related to the number of products, and different stores they are bought from. A 11 product lookbook sound like a great idea! |
